From November to March, many of us get up before the sun. The alarm goes off in total darkness, we jolt awake, and the day starts badly. The sunrise alarm clock takes another approach: instead of waking you suddenly with a sound, it gradually lights up the room, like a sunrise.
How it works
You set your wake-up time like on any alarm clock. About 30 minutes before, an amber light comes on very dimly, then slowly brightens until it lights the room. At the set time, a sound starts gently: birds, waves, rain or white noise, whichever you chose.
The idea is simple: the rising light prepares the transition from sleep to waking, and the sound arrives when you're already half awake. Many users say they wake up with less of a jolt. The effect varies from person to person: it isn't a treatment, just a gentler wake-up.
Who it's for
- Early risers in winter, when it's still dark.
- Anyone stressed by their phone alarm in the morning.
- Anyone who likes falling asleep to background sound (rain, waves, white noise) with a timer that stops it on its own.
- Children's rooms, thanks to the dimmable night light.
Setting it up well
- Place it near the bed, facing you, so the light reaches your face.
- Keep the curtains closed: the light works better in a dark room.
- Pick a calm sound and a low volume to start; you can turn it up if you don't hear it.
- Keep it plugged in: most models, including ours, have no battery and need mains power.
What it doesn't do
A sunrise alarm clock doesn't replace good sleep: if you go to bed too late, it won't work miracles. It makes waking up more pleasant, but it isn't a medical solution.
Our sunrise alarm clock raises the light over 30 minutes, offers 30 soothing sounds and a dimmable night light, in a linen cover that blends into the bedroom. Free shipping to Switzerland, France and Belgium.
